The Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve (TAMR), established in 2012, encompasses the Caye Bokel Conservation Area and is located approximately 30 miles directly east of Belize City. Effective management of coastal resources within marine protected areas (MPAs) such as TAMR often requires close monitoring of vessel activity, particularly in the case of small-scale fishing and recreational vessels which may require specialized monitoring strategies. Marine Monitor (M2) is a shore-based, multi-sensor platform that integrates commercially available hardware with custom software to autonomously track and report on vessel activity, providing valuable insights to support the strategic planning needs of MPA managers.<\/p>\n
