MAR Fund, through the Reef Rescue Initiative (RRI), is conducting a review and update of the Early Warning and Rapid Response Protocol – Actions to Mitigate the Impact of Tropical Cyclones on Coral Reefs.
The process is being carried out with the support of a working group composed of MAR Fund and experts in the field, including Calina Zepeda from The Nature Conservancy and Juan Carlos Huitrón Baca.. Additionally, professionals Dra. Claudia Padilla and Sara Gutiérrez, have been hired to lead the collection, analysis, and synthesis of information, as well as to facilitate consultation and validation workshops.
The objective of this activity is to ensure that the updated protocol reflects the best practices and identified recommendations, guaranteeing a more effective response to the impact of tropical cyclones on coral reefs.
The update of this instrument aims to strengthen post-storm response capacities in the Mesoamerican Reef region, contributing to the recovery and resilience of the reefs and the communities that depend on them.
This update is expected to be completed by July 2025.
