We are pleased to invite you to our next webinar.
Spawning aggregations of fish such as grouper and snapper are extremely important for reef health. However, populations have been in decline for decades due to overfishing and, more recently, climate change. Some spawning sites have been exploited by fisheries for more than 100 years, and today's fish abundances are incomparable with the past. Yet it is easy to forget what these sites were like. The Status Report on Fish Spawning Aggregations in the Mesoamerican Reef, developed during the MAR Fish Project, provides information and insight on the status of many of these sites and how they have changed over time.
During this webinar, Stuart Fulton from COBI, will share the impacts of institutional amnesia and shifting baselines that likely contribute to the continued loss of these key sites. He will also share information on the status of fish spawning aggregations obtained through the sentinel site observation network of the MAR Fish project.
